Description

A delightful and nostalgic treat, these simple Japanese dumplings are made with just five ingredients and can be crafted in just 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sweet rice flour (mochi flour)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Toppings and sauces (e.g., sweetened soybean flour (kinako), syrup, matcha)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sweet rice flour and sugar.
  2. Gradually add water, stirring continuously until a soft dough forms.
  3. Roll small portions of the dough into balls, about the size of a marble.
  4. Bring a pot of water to a boil and gently drop the dango balls in, cooking until they float to the surface (about 4-5 minutes).
  5. Remove the dango with a slotted spoon and rinse with cold water.
  6. Roll them in preferred coatings or drizzle with syrup before serving.

Notes

Ensure that the dough consistency is just right for the best texture. Avoid overcooking or undercooking the dumplings.
