Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup diced apples (Granny Smith recommended)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gently fold in the diced apples.
- In another bowl, whisk together milk and egg. Gradually pour into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface, and pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into wedges or rounds.
- Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and maple syrup until smooth, adjusting consistency with milk if needed.
- Drizzle glaze over warm scones and enjoy.
Notes
Keep ingredients cold for a flaky texture. Avoid overmixing the dough for light scones.
