- 1 chocolate cake (prepared)
- 2 cups cherries (fresh or canned)
- 2 cups whipped cream
- Chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare your chocolate cake and let it cool completely before cutting.
- If using fresh cherries, pit and slice them. If using canned, drain them but reserve some juice.
- Whip the cream, adding sugar and vanilla extract to taste, until soft peaks form.
- In a large trifle bowl, layer chocolate cake, cherries, and whipped cream. Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with whipped cream on top.
- Top with chocolate shavings and whole cherries for garnish.
- Refrigerate for at least two hours to allow flavors to blend.
Notes
For a lighter version, you can use chocolate sponge cake. Customize by substituting cherries with raspberries or strawberries.
