Description
Creamy and tangy Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes, a family favorite perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or sour cream/plain yogurt)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced (or roasted garlic)
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- Fresh herbs (chives or parsley), for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes: Peel and cut the potatoes into uniform chunks. Place them in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt.
- Cook the Potatoes: Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce to medium-low and simmer for about 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.
- Drain and Dry: Drain the potatoes and return to the pot. Let them steam on low heat for a few minutes to evaporate excess water.
- Mash the Potatoes: Mash the potatoes to the desired consistency using a masher or ricer, aiming for a creamy texture.
- Add the Goodies: Incorporate the butter and buttermilk into the potatoes, adding garlic and seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- Mix and Taste: Gently fold the ingredients together until just combined and creamy. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- Serve Warm: Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with a pat of butter and extra herbs if desired.
Notes
Warm the buttermilk and butter before adding to the potatoes to maintain texture. Avoid over-mashing for fluffiness.
