Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the bottom and sides of a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter with brown sugar until smooth and bubbling. Pour this mixture into the prepared pan.
  3. Arrange sliced apples over the caramel mixture.
  4. Cream together unsalted butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually mix this into the butter mixture, alternating with milk, until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter over the arranged apples in the pan.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
