Description
A warm and inviting appetizer featuring crispy bread topped with sweet caramelized onions, earthy mushrooms, and optional toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Baguette or crusty bread
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil
- 2 Onions (yellow or sweet)
- 8 oz Mushrooms (cremini, shiitake, or portobello)
- 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
- Fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Optional toppings (goat cheese or balsamic reduction)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch slices and lay them on a baking sheet. Brush one side with olive oil.
- Toast the bread in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, until golden brown.
- While the bread toasts, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt, cooking for about 15-20 minutes until caramelized.
- Once onions are golden, add minced garlic and mushrooms. Sauté for another 5-7 minutes until mushrooms are tender. Season with fresh herbs, salt, and pepper.
- Spread the caramelized mixture onto toasted baguette slices. Optionally, top with goat cheese or balsamic reduction.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Use a heavy skillet for even heating. Don’t overcrowd mushrooms and remember to taste as you go.
