Description

A warm and inviting appetizer featuring crispy bread topped with sweet caramelized onions, earthy mushrooms, and optional toppings.


Ingredients

  • 1 Baguette or crusty bread
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 Onions (yellow or sweet)
  • 8 oz Mushrooms (cremini, shiitake, or portobello)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • Fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Optional toppings (goat cheese or balsamic reduction)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch slices and lay them on a baking sheet. Brush one side with olive oil.
  2. Toast the bread in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, until golden brown.
  3. While the bread toasts, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt, cooking for about 15-20 minutes until caramelized.
  4. Once onions are golden, add minced garlic and mushrooms. Sauté for another 5-7 minutes until mushrooms are tender. Season with fresh herbs, salt, and pepper.
  5. Spread the caramelized mixture onto toasted baguette slices. Optionally, top with goat cheese or balsamic reduction.
  6. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Use a heavy skillet for even heating. Don’t overcrowd mushrooms and remember to taste as you go.
