Description

Creamy, cheesy scalloped potatoes layered with garlic for a comforting side dish that elevates any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Peel and thinly slice potatoes, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  4. Add heavy cream, salt, and pepper to the skillet, stirring to combine. Let simmer for a couple of minutes.
  5. In a bowl, combine the sliced potatoes and the warm cream mixture. Toss until the potatoes are well-coated.
  6. Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish, sprinkle half of the cheese on top, then repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Allow to set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream. You can also mix in different cheese types for a unique flavor.
