- 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Peel and thinly slice potatoes, about 1/8 inch thick.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Add heavy cream, salt, and pepper to the skillet, stirring to combine. Let simmer for a couple of minutes.
- In a bowl, combine the sliced potatoes and the warm cream mixture. Toss until the potatoes are well-coated.
- Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish, sprinkle half of the cheese on top, then repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow to set for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream. You can also mix in different cheese types for a unique flavor.
