  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup toasted hazelnuts, ground

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, until just combined.
  6. Fold in the ground hazelnuts gently.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
