A delightful Chocolate Hazelnut Cake that combines rich chocolate with the nutty flavor of toasted hazelnuts, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1.5 tsp baking powder
- 1.5 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup toasted hazelnuts, ground
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, until just combined.
- Fold in the ground hazelnuts gently.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost with your favorite chocolate ganache or buttercream and sprinkle chopped hazelnuts on top if desired.
Notes
Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smooth batter. Sift dry ingredients to avoid lumps. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake light and fluffy.
