Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine one cup of flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, beating until fully combined.
  5. Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet mix, stirring gently. If adding chocolate chips, mix them in now.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each scoop.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until edges are set but centers are slightly soft.
  8. Let cool briefly before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Enjoy your mouthwatering Chocolate Sugar Cookies!

Notes

For gluten-free cookies, substitute almond flour for all-purpose flour. Use a flaxseed egg for a vegan version.
