Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, then gradually add to the creamed mixture until well incorporated.
  4. Divide the dough into portions and add food coloring, kneading until colors are vibrant.
  5. Roll out each colored dough and assemble into layers, rolling tightly into a log and chilling for at least an hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled dough and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden at the edges.
  8. Cool completely before decorating with icing or sprinkles.
