- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red food coloring
- Green food coloring
- Optional: matcha powder, fruit purees for flavor
Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Divide the dough into two parts; color one half red and the other green.
- Wrap each colored dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Roll out each colored dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place one rectangle on top of the other; press gently to adhere.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and wrap in wax paper; chill again for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the log into rounds and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden. Cool before transferring to a wire rack.
