Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  2. Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Divide the dough into two parts; color one half red and the other green.
  4. Wrap each colored dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. Roll out each colored dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Place one rectangle on top of the other; press gently to adhere.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and wrap in wax paper; chill again for 1 hour.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the log into rounds and place on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden. Cool before transferring to a wire rack.
