Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup walnuts, toasted and chopped
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Whisk in melted butter, brown sugar, and eggs. Gradually add flour and cinnamon until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl; cover and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts in a small bowl for the filling.
  6. Punch down the risen dough; roll it out into a rectangle. Spread softened butter on the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch pieces. Place in a greased baking pan.
  8. Cover the pan with a towel; let the buns rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. In a small saucepan, heat maple syrup and butter until melted, and pour it over the buns.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let them cool slightly before serving, then invert the pan onto a serving platter.
