Description
A delightful recipe for farmer’s cheese dumplings served with a sweet compote, embodying warmth and nostalgia.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup farmer’s cheese (or ricotta/cottage cheese)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or almond/gluten-free blend)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons sugar (granulated, brown, or coconut)
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- Water for boiling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine farmer’s cheese, flour, sugar, and salt. Mix in the egg and melted butter until you achieve a sticky dough. Adjust with additional flour if needed.
- Dust your countertop with flour and roll the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
- Bring a pot of salted water to a gentle boil. Drop in the dumplings and cook until they float to the surface, about 3-5 minutes.
- In a saucepan, combine your chosen fruits, a hint of water, and honey or maple syrup. Simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes until juicy.
- Drain the dumplings and transfer them to a serving dish. Top with warm compote and optionally add whipped cream or yogurt.
- Serve warm, sharing with loved ones.
Notes
Ensure the water is at a gentle boil to prevent the dumplings from breaking apart. Let them float for about a minute to cook through properly.
