Description
A delightful fusion of crispy chicken, savory ham, and melted cheese, all nestled in a toasted sandwich.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 slices of prosciutto or ham
- 4 slices of Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup flour
- Fresh herbs (parsley or thyme) – optional
- Butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Pound the chicken breasts flat until they are about half an inch thick.
- Layer a slice of ham and cheese on each chicken breast.
- Fold the chicken over and secure with toothpicks if necessary.
- Set up a breading station: one plate with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each chicken piece in flour, dip into the egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add butter or oil.
- Cook the breaded chicken for about 4-5 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
- Transfer to the oven and bake for about 10 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- Slice the sandwich in half and serve hot.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or Dijon mustard between the layers. Let the coated chicken rest for 10 minutes before cooking for extra crispiness.
