- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Filling options: pastry cream, whipped cream, chocolate custard, fruit jam
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet mixture into the yeast mixture. Add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out to about half an inch thick. Cut out circles using a cookie cutter or a glass.
- Place cut-out dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry bomboloni for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly, then fill with desired filling using a piping bag.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.
