Description

Indulgent cream-filled bomboloni that are soft, airy, and lightly dusted with powdered sugar, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Filling options: pastry cream, whipped cream, chocolate custard, fruit jam
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the yeast mixture. Add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about half an inch thick. Cut out circles using a cookie cutter or a glass.
  6. Place cut-out dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry bomboloni for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Let them cool slightly, then fill with desired filling using a piping bag.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

Ensure oil temperature is consistent when frying and avoid overcrowding the pan.
