- 6 fresh buttery croissants, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup sautéed mushrooms (cremini or button)
- 1 cup grated cheddar or Gruyère cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh herbs (chives, parsley, or thyme)
- 1 cup crumbled sausage or bacon (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine croissant pieces and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat oil or butter over medium heat, add mushrooms, and sauté until golden with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, salt, and pepper.
- Fold sautéed mushrooms into croissant pieces, pour custard mixture over, and add grated cheese and sausage/bacon if using.
- Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes (or refrigerate overnight).
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Pour into a greased baking dish, top with additional cheese, and bake for 35–45 minutes until golden brown and set.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving and garnish with fresh herbs.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, skip the meat and add more vegetables. You can also substitute croissants with day-old bread for a different texture.
