Description

A comforting and delicious blend of flaky croissants, creamy custard, and earthy mushrooms, perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 6 fresh buttery croissants, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup sautéed mushrooms (cremini or button)
  • 1 cup grated cheddar or Gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs (chives, parsley, or thyme)
  • 1 cup crumbled sausage or bacon (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine croissant pieces and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, heat oil or butter over medium heat, add mushrooms, and sauté until golden with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, salt, and pepper.
  4. Fold sautéed mushrooms into croissant pieces, pour custard mixture over, and add grated cheese and sausage/bacon if using.
  5. Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes (or refrigerate overnight).
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Pour into a greased baking dish, top with additional cheese, and bake for 35–45 minutes until golden brown and set.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving and garnish with fresh herbs.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, skip the meat and add more vegetables. You can also substitute croissants with day-old bread for a different texture.
