Description

A rich and decadent cake merging dark chocolate and robust espresso, perfect for celebrations and creating memorable moments with loved ones.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup high-quality dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 1/2 cup fresh espresso
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients: Measure all your ingredients and let the eggs and butter reach room temperature.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter and flour.
  3. Melt the dark chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl over a double boiler or in the microwave until smooth; allow to cool slightly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
  5. Gradually combine the melted chocolate mixture with the egg-sugar mixture, mixing gently.
  6. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold this into the wet mixture, alternating with the brewed espresso.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Frost with your favorite espresso-infused chocolate ganache once cooled.
  9. Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar, whipped cream, or fresh berries.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use coconut oil instead of butter and plant-based milk instead of eggs. Consider adding a splash of coffee liqueur to your ganache for enhanced richness.
