Description

Delightful French Dip Squares filled with roast beef, sautéed mushrooms, and sweet onions, wrapped in buttery pastry for a comforting dish.

  • 1 pound thinly sliced roast beef
  • 8 ounces fresh cremini or button mushrooms, chopped
  • 2 medium sweet or yellow onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 package puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup Swiss or provolone cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and chopped mushrooms; cook until tender and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in roast beef, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper. Optional: stir in a handful of cheese for extra creaminess.
  5. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into squares to fit a generous spoonful of filling.
  6. Place filling on half of each pastry square, fold over, and seal edges. Crimp with a fork if desired.
  7. Brush the tops with melted butter.
  8. Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Serve hot with a small bowl of beef broth or au jus for dipping.
