  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 egg, for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough: In a large bowl, mix flour, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter; mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let It Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough: Punch down the risen dough. Divide it into three equal parts, roll each into a long strand, and braid together.
  6. Second Rise: Place the braided loaf on a lined baking sheet. Cover it and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  7. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing and serve warm with butter or olive oil.

Notes

Use whole wheat flour for a nuttier flavor, or swap fresh herbs for dried ones if needed. Vegan options can be made by using plant-based butter and skipping the egg.
