Description
Delicious and fluffy cinnamon rolls with a festive Halloween twist, made with pumpkin puree and topped with a sweet glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
- 1/3 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Warm the milk until lukewarm, sprinkle in the yeast, and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt; make a well and add melted butter, pumpkin puree, egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Prepare the cinnamon filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and optional spices.
- Roll out the dough into a large rectangle, spread the filling over, and roll tightly into a log.
- Slice into even pieces and place in a greased baking dish; let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Mix together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk for a glaze; drizzle over warm rolls.
Notes
Allow the dough plenty of time to rise in a warm place for the best texture. Optionally decorate with orange or purple icing.
