Description
A delightful twist on a classic dish, combining sweet Hawaiian rolls with gooey, melty cheese and earthy mushrooms for a nostalgic family favorite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 Hawaiian rolls
- 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (shiitake or button)
- Fresh herbs (basil or chives) for garnish
Instructions
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half.
- Sauté the mushrooms in a skillet with a tablespoon of butter over medium heat for about 5 minutes, then add garlic and sauté for another minute.
- Assemble the sandwich with cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and more cheese on the Hawaiian rolls.
- Add more butter to the skillet and grill the sandwiches on low heat for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Remove, slice, and serve hot with a salad or soup.
Notes
Use low heat to ensure the bread crisps perfectly while the cheese melts. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses and add-ins.
