Description

A delightful nostalgic treat, Homemade Saltwater Taffy combines sugar, salt, and flavor extracts to create a chewy candy that brings joy and memories to any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp flavored extracts (vanilla, mint, etc.)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Once the mixture comes to a boil, stop stirring and let it reach the hard ball stage (around 250°F, or 121°C).
  3. Remove from heat and carefully pour in the salt and flavor extracts.
  4. Allow to cool slightly, then pour onto a greased surface.
  5. Once manageable, grease hands with butter and start pulling the taffy until shiny and pliable.
  6. Add food coloring if desired, and continue until glossy.
  7. Form into a log and wrap in wax paper before cutting into bite-sized pieces.

Notes

Patience is key when making taffy. Monitor the temperature closely to achieve the perfect texture.
