- 8 Hawaiian rolls
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button, shiitake, or portobello)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional herbs (basil, thyme) or spices (red pepper flakes)
Instructions
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half and set them aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt a tablespoon of butter.
- Add in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, sautéing until golden brown and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper, then remove from heat.
- Spread a thin layer of butter on the cut sides of each roll half.
- Place half of the rolls, cut side down, in the skillet over medium heat.
- Layer with shredded cheese, followed by the sautéed garlic and mushrooms, then add more cheese on top.
- Top with the other half of the rolls, cut side facing up.
- Cook until the bottom is golden brown and cheese is melting, approximately 3-4 minutes.
- Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the second side is golden and crispy.
- Serve warm, slicing into triangles if desired.
