- 2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- Optional: chopped fresh herbs (parsley or chives)
- Optional: sautéed mushrooms for added flavor
Instructions
- Prepare the potatoes by peeling and cutting them into even chunks.
- Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes well and allow them to steam dry for a couple of minutes.
- Return the potatoes to the pot and mash them with a potato masher or ricer.
- Add melted butter, warmed cream, garlic, salt, and pepper while mashing until smooth and creamy.
- For extra flavor, fold in chopped fresh herbs before serving.
- Transfer to a serving bowl and serve warm.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, substitute olive oil and almond milk. You can also use cauliflower as an alternative for the potatoes.
