Description

A comforting classic meat pie with a flaky crust and a savory ground beef filling, perfect for sharing with family and friends.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or 1/2 tsp dried)
  • 1 tsp fresh rosemary (or 1/2 tsp dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, etc.)
  • 1 package pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in garlic and ground beef, cooking until browned; season with salt, pepper, thyme, and rosemary.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stir, and then slowly add beef broth, simmer until thickened.
  5. Roll out your pie dough and cut circular shapes for the base and top.
  6. Fill the pie crust base with the meat filling, cover with the top crust and crimp edges to seal.
  7. Create slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
  8. Brush with egg wash and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Feel free to customize with different meats or go vegetarian by substituting with mushrooms or lentils. Serve with a side salad or mashed potatoes.
