A comforting and hearty Meat Pie filled with seasoned ground meat and vegetables, all enveloped in a flaky, buttery crust.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup carrots, diced
- 1 cup peas or mushrooms (optional)
- 1 tsp fresh thyme
- 1 tsp fresh rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 package puff pastry or homemade pie crust
- 1 egg, for egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté onions until translucent.
- Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add ground meat, breaking it apart, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in diced carrots and any additional vegetables, followed by herbs and seasonings.
- Pour in beef broth and let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Roll out the pastry crust and place one layer in a pie dish. Fill with the meat mixture.
- Cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape, place on top and brush with beaten egg.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
You can customize the filling and use different meats or veggies based on preference. Allow the filling to cool slightly before adding to the crust to prevent sogginess.
