- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup sugar (for cherry filling)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- Pit and chopped cherries (fresh or frozen)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
- For the cherry filling, mix chopped cherries with sugar and cornstarch.
- Spread two-thirds of the dough into the prepared baking pan, layer with cherry filling, and dollop remaining dough on top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and bubbling, then let cool for at least an hour before cutting.
Notes
Allow bars to cool completely before cutting to ensure a better texture. Dust with powdered sugar for presentation.
