Description

Delightful Orange Chai Scones that blend zesty orange with warm chai spices for a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chai spices (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger)
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (or coconut oil)
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream (or milk)
  • Zest of 1 orange (or lemon zest)
  • Optional: Icing sugar for glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and chai spices.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the orange zest and gradually pour in the heavy cream, mixing until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a 1-inch thick round. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
  6. Place the scones on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool on a wire rack and drizzle with a glaze made of icing sugar and orange juice if desired.

Notes

Use cold ingredients for a flaky texture. Avoid overworking the dough to prevent tough scones.
