Description
A delightful dessert combining the creaminess of flan with the zesty brightness of orange, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar (plus additional for caramelizing)
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup whole milk (or half-and-half)
- ½ cup heavy cream (or coconut cream)
- Zest and juice of 2 fresh oranges
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Caramel: In a medium saucepan, heat 1 cup of sugar over medium heat until it dissolves and turns a golden brown. Carefully pour the caramel into a flan mold, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Let it cool.
- Blend the Flan Mixture: In a blender, combine eggs, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, heavy cream, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.
- Combine and Pour: Pour the orange mixture over the cooled caramel in the mold.
- Bake the Flan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish and fill it with boiling water to create a water bath. Bake for 50-60 minutes until the flan sets (check by inserting a knife in the center).
- Chill: Once baked, let the flan cool to room temperature before refrigerating for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Serve: To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and inversely turn it onto a plate. The caramel will cascade down.
Notes
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra richness.
