Description
Crispy outside and soft inside, these pan-fried red bean pastries are a delightful treat that evokes warmth and nostalgia.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup cooked adzuki beans (or canned red beans)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free all-purpose flour)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or honey/maple syrup)
- Neutral oil (vegetable or canola) for frying
- Water, as needed
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Cook the red beans until soft; mash them slightly and mix with sugar to taste.
- In a bowl, mix flour and a pinch of salt; gradually add water to form a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into a flat circle (4-5 inches in diameter).
- Place a spoonful of the bean mixture in the center and fold to seal, pressing the edges together.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat; fry pastries until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot, optionally with sweet soy sauce.
Notes
Ensure your oil is hot enough before frying for maximum crispiness. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
