Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, oil, and eggs until combined. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Roll tablespoon-sized balls of dough in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  7. Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are crinkled.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Chill the dough to help the cookies hold their shape while baking. Use quality ingredients for the best flavor.
