- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- Cream cheese frosting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Gradually incorporate the sifted dry ingredients and drizzle in red food coloring while mixing.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Scoop out tablespoon-sized balls of dough, place on the baking sheet, and bang gently against the counter.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are set and the center remains soft.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Frost with cream cheese frosting if desired.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour. Consider using Dutch-processed cocoa for a richer flavor.
