- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk with sugar and sprinkle the yeast. Let it bloom for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Add the bloomed yeast mixture to the flour mixture, then incorporate melted butter, eggs, and red food coloring. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter in a bowl.
- On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Spread the filling evenly.
- Starting from one end, roll the dough into a log and slice into 1-inch thick rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden.
- While they bake, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Allow rolls to cool slightly before drizzling the icing on top and serve warm!
