Description

Delightful red velvet cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing, perfect for celebrating love on Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk with sugar and sprinkle the yeast. Let it bloom for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Add the bloomed yeast mixture to the flour mixture, then incorporate melted butter, eggs, and red food coloring. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter in a bowl.
  6. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Spread the filling evenly.
  7. Starting from one end, roll the dough into a log and slice into 1-inch thick rolls.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden.
  10. While they bake, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  11. Allow rolls to cool slightly before drizzling the icing on top and serve warm!

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients and don’t skip the second rise.
