- 1.5 lb flank steak or sirloin, sliced into thin strips
- 1/2 cup light soy sauce
- 1/4 cup dark soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 4 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water (for thickening)
Instructions
- Slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips.
- Whisk together light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and ginger in a bowl. Add the beef, mixing well to coat, and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Transfer the marinated beef to the slow cooker and pour any leftover marinade over the top.
- Set your slow cooker to low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours, until the beef is tender.
- In the last 30 minutes, mix cornstarch with water and add it to the slow cooker. Stir to thicken the sauce.
- Once done, sprinkle with sliced green onions before serving.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce. Feel free to add vegetables like bok choy or broccoli for added nutrition.
