Description

Crispy, golden cornmeal-battered hot dogs in warm hoagie buns, smothered in tangy, creamy coleslaw.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
  • 1 cup finely ground cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Spices: Old Bay, paprika, and black pepper
  • Soft hoagie buns
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Mustard and hot sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, and spices.
  2. In another bowl, whisk eggs and blend in milk.
  3. Dunk each hot dog in the batter, then coat in the cornmeal mixture.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C) and fry the hot dogs until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cabbage and carrots.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, and salt. Mix with the veggies.
  7. Slice hoagie buns, add a fried hot dog, top with coleslaw and sauces.
  8. Serve and enjoy immediately!

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using whole grain buns and adding extra veggies to the coleslaw. Adjust spice levels based on preference.
