Crispy, golden cornmeal-battered hot dogs in warm hoagie buns, smothered in tangy, creamy coleslaw.

- 4 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
- 1 cup finely ground cornmeal
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Spices: Old Bay, paprika, and black pepper
- Soft hoagie buns
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Mustard and hot sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, and spices.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs and blend in milk.
- Dunk each hot dog in the batter, then coat in the cornmeal mixture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C) and fry the hot dogs until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cabbage and carrots.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, and salt. Mix with the veggies.
- Slice hoagie buns, add a fried hot dog, top with coleslaw and sauces.
- Serve and enjoy immediately!
Notes
For a healthier option, consider using whole grain buns and adding extra veggies to the coleslaw. Adjust spice levels based on preference.
