Description

A comforting dish of scalloped potatoes, layered with cream, garlic, and cheese, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 ½ cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or rosemary, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Thinly slice the potatoes to about a quarter of an inch thick.
  3. In a bowl, mix heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and chopped herbs.
  4. Layer one third of the potatoes in the baking dish, pour one third of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle with a layer of cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering process until you have three layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-30 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving and garnish with fresh herbs.

Notes

Ensure potato slices are uniform for even cooking. Allow resting time after baking for easier serving.
