Delightful sugar cookies that are soft, buttery, and perfect for decorating with icing and sprinkles.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy—about 3-4 minutes.
- Mix in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and gradually add to the wet mixture.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool on a wire rack and decorate once cooled.
Notes
Avoid overbaking; edges should be golden while centers are soft. Chill dough to prevent spreading during baking.
