Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking trays with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the M&Ms, reserving some for topping.
  7. Drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared trays, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Press additional M&Ms on top for a pop of color.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

For a chewy cookie, ensure butter is softened, not melted. Refrigerating the dough for 30 minutes can help maintain shape while baking.
