Description
A festive and sweet-tart cranberry jam perfect for holiday gatherings, evoking family memories with every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups fresh cranberries
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Zest and juice of 1 orange
- Zest and juice of 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon pectin (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Rinse the cranberries under cold water and discard any that are smashed or wrinkled.
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, water, and the zest and juice of your selected citrus.
- Cook the Mixture: Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
- Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly.
- Check for Consistency: To test if the jam is thick enough, place a small spoonful on a cold plate. If it holds its shape, it’s ready; otherwise, continue simmering.
- Seal the Jars: Ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims clean and seal with lids.
- Process the Jars: For longer shelf life, can the filled jars in a boiling water bath for about 10 minutes.
- Cool and Store: Allow the jars to cool completely before storing. The jam can last up to a year in a cool, dark place.
