- 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced ¼ inch thick
- 1 cup fresh or dried cranberries
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary), chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup cheese (Gruyère or sharp cheddar), optional
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or nuts, optional for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peeled and slice the sweet potatoes thinly.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, add minced garlic, and sauté for 1 minute.
- Stir in cream, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper, and bring to a gentle simmer.
- In a buttered baking dish, layer half of the sweet potato slices and half of the cranberries.
- Drizzle half the cream mixture over the layers.
- Repeat the layering with remaining sweet potatoes, cranberries, and cream.
- Top with cheese or breadcrumbs if using.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Allow the gratin to rest after baking for better slicing.
