Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, adding almond extract if desired.
- Whisk together the flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the butter mixture.
- Divide the dough in half and color one half with food coloring, kneading until the color is even.
- Roll out each colored dough into rectangles and layer them, rolling tightly into a log.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until firm.
- Slice into ¼ inch rounds and bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden around the edges.
- Cool on a wire rack and decorate as desired.
