Description

A delightful Traditional Canadian Bannock Bread, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for gatherings and family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter or oil
  • 3/4 cup water or milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk to combine.
  3. Add butter (or oil) into the dry mix and work it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually pour in water or milk, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 30 seconds.
  6. Shape the dough into a round or rectangle about 1 inch thick, place on a baking sheet, and score the top lightly.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown; let cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

For extra flavor, brush the top with melted garlic butter halfway through baking.
