Description

A heartwarming dessert featuring baked apples topped with a crunchy oat and brown sugar crisp.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups mixed sweet and tart apples (e.g., Fuji, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the apples, then toss with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla in a large bowl. Spread the mixture evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in the melted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apple filling.
  5. Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving, preferably warm with a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

For added texture, consider mixing in chopped nuts or dried fruit into the topping. Adjust sweetness based on the tartness of the apples used.
