A heartwarming dessert featuring baked apples topped with a crunchy oat and brown sugar crisp.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups mixed sweet and tart apples (e.g., Fuji, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions

- Peel and slice the apples, then toss with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla in a large bowl. Spread the mixture evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in the melted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving, preferably warm with a scoop of ice cream.
Notes
For added texture, consider mixing in chopped nuts or dried fruit into the topping. Adjust sweetness based on the tartness of the apples used.
