- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3/4 cup softened butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and molasses.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Refrigerate the dough for about one hour.
- Roll out the chilled dough and cut out desired shapes. Place on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until firm but slightly soft in the center.
- Let the cookies cool before transferring to a wire rack.
- To make icing, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Decorate cooled cookies.
- Let the icing set before serving and enjoy!
Notes
Chilling the dough is important for keeping the cookies’ shape while baking. Be careful not to overbake.
