Description

Delightful Apple Cinnamon Rolls that evoke warm memories and create new ones around the kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: Heat your milk until lukewarm. Pour it into a mixing bowl, adding sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the dough: In a separate bowl, whisk together your flour and salt. Once the yeast is activated, add eggs and softened butter. Gradually mix in the flour until it forms a dough.
  3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
  5. Prepare the filling: Peel and dice your apples, then toss with brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  6. Roll and fill: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a rectangle. Spread softened butter and sprinkle the apple mixture evenly over the dough.
  7. Shape the rolls: Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into portions, placing in a greased baking dish.
  8. Second rise: Let the rolls rise again for about 30 minutes until puffed.
  9. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar and a splash of milk, spreading it over warm rolls.

Notes

Feel free to customize using gluten-free flour or almond milk for dietary restrictions. Patience is key for rising times.
