- 4 cups stale bread (cubed)
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1 cup milk or cream
- 1 cup bell peppers (diced)
- 1 cup onions (diced)
- 1 cup mushrooms (sliced)
- 1 cup cooked sausage or bacon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh herbs (like parsley or chives, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the bread base by cutting it into cubes and placing in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Sauté the vegetables in olive oil until golden and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
- Whip the eggs with milk, salt, and seasonings until well combined.
- Layer half of the egg mixture over the bread cubes, followed by half of the cheese, sautéed vegetables, and any meats. Finish by topping with the remaining egg mixture and cheese.
- Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until set and golden.
- Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
