Description
Indulge in the rich flavors of Butter Basted Steak, where high-quality cuts meet the warmth of browned butter and fresh herbs for a delightful dining experience.
Ingredients
- Steak (ribeye, filet mignon, or sirloin)
- Unsalted butter (2 to 4 tablespoons)
- Fresh herbs (like thyme or rosemary)
- Garlic (2-3 cloves, smashed)
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
- Choose Your Steak: Start with one of the chosen cuts, ideally bringing it to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.
- Season Generously: Pat the steak dry with paper towels, then season with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Preheat Your Pan: Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until hot enough that a drop of water sizzles on contact.
- Sear the Steak: Add oil to the pan, then lay in the steak. Sear for about 3-4 minutes on one side until a beautiful crust forms.
- Add Butter and Aromatics: Flip the steak and add butter, garlic, and herbs to the pan. Tilt the skillet and baste the steak continuously with melted butter.
- Monitor Cooking Time: Continue to cook for 3-6 more minutes for medium-rare, aiming for 135°F (57°C).
- Rest Your Steak: Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Slice and Enjoy: Slice against the grain and drizzle any remaining buttery goodness over top.
Notes
Letting the steak come to room temperature before cooking ensures more even cooking. Don’t skip the basting process!
