Description
Delightful layered pastries that combine the buttery flakiness of croissants with a sweet cinnamon sugar topping and a luscious vanilla glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (or coconut oil)
- 2 large eggs (or flaxseed egg for vegan)
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by dissolving it in warm milk with a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten eggs to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle (1/4-inch thick). Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
- Roll tightly into a log, slice into rounds, and place them in a muffin tin. Allow to rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake the cruffins for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a splash of milk for the glaze.
- Remove cruffins from oven, drizzle with glaze, and enjoy!
Notes
For best results, ensure yeast is fresh and active. Allow dough to rise in a warm environment for softer cruffins.
