Description

Delightful layered pastries that combine the buttery flakiness of croissants with a sweet cinnamon sugar topping and a luscious vanilla glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (or coconut oil)
  • 2 large eggs (or flaxseed egg for vegan)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by dissolving it in warm milk with a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten eggs to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle (1/4-inch thick). Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
  6. Roll tightly into a log, slice into rounds, and place them in a muffin tin. Allow to rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake the cruffins for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a splash of milk for the glaze.
  9. Remove cruffins from oven, drizzle with glaze, and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, ensure yeast is fresh and active. Allow dough to rise in a warm environment for softer cruffins.
