Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup unsalted butter, chilled
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1–2 jalapeños, finely chopped
- 1 cup fresh cranberries
- ½ cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- Fresh herbs (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and chopped jalapeños.
- Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and gently stir to combine without overmixing.
- Fold in the cranberries and cheese.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, shape into a disc, and cut into triangles or rounds.
- Place on the baking sheet, brush with buttermilk, and sprinkle with sea salt.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a vegan version, substitute coconut oil for butter and plant-based milk for buttermilk. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for later use.
