Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Ingredients for icing: 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Prep the Dough: Warm the milk slightly to about 110°F and combine it with yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let it froth for about 5-10 minutes.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, spices, and salt.
- Combine: Stir in melted butter, eggs, and molasses into the yeast mixture. Gradually add in the dry mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Roll and Fill: Punch down the dough, roll it into a rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Shape the Rolls: Roll the dough tightly and slice into rolls.
- Second Rise: Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for 30-45 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown.
- Prepare the Icing: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Finish: Drizzle icing over the warm rolls after baking.
Notes
Ensure your yeast is fresh for optimal rising. Don’t rush the kneading and rising process for fluffy rolls.
